Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month: Bright Beginnings Preschool Takes Action

April is recognized nationwide as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about child abuse and neglect. The focus is on the importance of prevention efforts to protect children and support families. Communities, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to work together to shed light on the prevalence of child abuse and take proactive steps to safeguard children.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness, Bright Beginnings Preschool has partnered with Jamie Miller, Community Outreach Coordinator with Guernsey County Children Services, to educate our students in an age-appropriate manner. Jamie visits our classrooms to present an interactive story that helps preschoolers understand the difference between “Good Touch and Bad Touch.”

Accompanied by OVESC School Nurse, Wanda Hockenberry, Jamie reaches all 44 Bright Beginnings classes across Guernsey, Monroe, Belmont, Perry, and Washington counties, impacting over 500 families. The sessions provide a safe and engaging environment where children can learn, ask questions, and actively participate in discussions about personal safety.

It is truly inspiring to see our young learners engaged and responding to Jamie’s questions. At the conclusion of each session, every child receives an activity booklet reinforcing the key points discussed, with encouragement to share it with their families.

“Raising awareness is a critical first step in preventing child abuse and neglect. When we take action to help families thrive, children have the opportunity to grow up safe, healthy, and strong,” said Hockenberry.

Bright Beginnings Preschool extends our heartfelt gratitude to Jamie Miller for partnering with us in our mission to keep our children safe and our families informed. By working together, we can continue to promote a safer and more aware community for our little ones.
